Memory Pockets
$10.00
This quilt is made up of 25 pockets from the fronts of men’s shirts. The diagonal elements
on the corners of the quilt are made from the plackets of the same shirts.
Personal Note: This pattern was designed after a quilting friend asked me if I had a
pattern that would be suitable for making a quilt using her late husband’s shirts. Once
the sample quilt was completed, I began hearing how MANY people had been saving
their father’s or husband’s shirts for a quilt. Some people are making quilts for the
children and grandchildren of the loved one, and some of the quilts are going to other
family members with special memories of the one who wore the shirts.
I am most thankful to the friend who asked me about a pattern for her memory quilt, because
I would not have designed this particular one, otherwise. I truly believe this pattern is filling
a special need in the hearts of many who have held onto those special items of clothing.
Other ideas for this pattern:
* Some people are making this quilt for Christmas — using the 25 pockets to “hide surprises”
– one for each day, as a countdown to Christmas. This would be a good way to use your
scraps of Christmas fabric from other projects, OR a reason to buy some of the gorgeous
new Christmas fabrics that are currently available.
* Make one for a dorm room wall and use it as storage for small items.
* Use this quilt in a baby’s room — from fabrics that match the decor — to hold all of those
baby items — lotion, powder, pacifiers, toys, thermometer, etc.
* Use it in a bathroom — you KNOW how many items are in there that could be placed in a pocket
to free up some counter space. The quilt could even be attached to a shower curtain,
if wall space is limited.
